@2019 The Collection MoDA

OUR STORY

The Collection MoDA was founded by Kerry Ann Clarke in 2011. The owner of a lifestyle concept store KERRY manwomanhome in Kingston Jamaica, Kerry always fostered a love for unique products made by artisans. In 1993, Clarke moved to Paris to study Fashion Marketing at Parsons School of Design. During her six year stint there, one of her favorite pasttimes was to visit the many markets in different arrondissements, where she caught herself always searching for unique things whether clothing, jewelry or art.

She returned to Jamaica in 1998, and in 2003, opened her boutique (@KERRYmwh). She started working with designers and artisans to create collections available exclusively there; and as the cadre of designers and artisans grew, MoDA was born.

“There is so much talent in this country, but not enough opportunities for these persons to grow and turn their passion into a sustainable business. I truly believe if you do what you are passionate about, your life will be more fulfilling.”

The Collection MoDA series of events was conceptualized in 2011. It started with MoDA Runway, and was a huge success!

Clarke always knew that the Runway show was not enough, and was in search of the perfect partner to grow the MoDA series. In 2014, she met her partner, Aiesha Panton, who she fondly calls her work wife. These two ladies have worked tirelessly to create the Caribbeans number one creative platform, welcoming vendors from neighboring islands as well as wholesale buyers over the four day series of events.

2019 will be one of the biggest years for the Collection MoDA , as the company launches MoDA Market West in Montego Bay, and targets the diaspora to visit Jamaica for a weekend of fashion and lifestyle events for the series in Kingston!

Aiesha Panton, our Curator, bid adieu to her plans of a corporate career in Accounting after a series of serendipitous experiences led her to the realization that life’s moments, for her, would be better spent chasing and creating beautiful things and experiences.

She started, Pussbackfoot, an event design boutique in Jamaica, a decade ago, and since then has done just what she set out to do; create exquisite affairs, all the while, celebrating Caribbean makers and artisans along the way. It was at one such endeavour, Conversation Piece, an annual curated pop-up showcasing the best local talent, where she met Kerry-Ann. Since then they have joined forces to develop The Collection MoDA to what it is today.

Aiesha remains committed to and passionate about playing her part in developing an economy which emboldens creative talent and fosters sustainable creative businesses.

INNER FASHIONISTA?

1800s in France...surrounded by luxurious dresses and elegant gowns. She is sitting in her dressing room, being pampered and dressed up in pearls....Her dogs are always lounging by her feet.

WHAT IS SHE WEARING?

Everything is glamorous. Diamonds, pearls and couture dresses.

DAILY AFFIRMATION?

The world is my runway.

AIESHA

MoDA Curator

INNER FASHIONISTA?

She is a girl of some other space and time that can't quite be defines...An old soul, with a fresh outlook and fire in her eyes. A dreamer and a doer, she is most likely poring over something beautiful in a book, online or in her favorite place, her mind.

WHAT IS SHE WEARING?

Whatever she feels like at any given moment...The day could start out with a laid-back boyish or boho look and end very sophisticated and edgy.

DAILY AFFIRMATION?

Fearfully and wonderfully made...There is nothing she cannot do.

FIDGE

INNER FASHIONISTA?

1970s. She is working in New York City as a wardrobe director working on films like Taxi Driver and Saturday Night Fever.

By night she is dancing to disco music at Studio 54, with Debbie Harry from Blondie, and Donna Summer - to Donna Summer's "Love to Love You Baby", a classic hit.

WHAT IS SHE WEARING?

Decked out in total 70's glam! A Bob Mackie gold lame sequined harem ruched jumpsuit or dress, gold bangles, diamond rings, a massive fox fur coat, sequined head turban, oversized sunglasses, a pair of Halston heels and a Halston handbag.

DAILY AFFIRMATION?

You are a winner! Trust your instincts-confidence is key!

INNER FASHIONISTA?

1990s. Listening to Erykah Badu's debut album Baduizm and singing at the top of her lungs while dancing to track 2, On&On.

WHAT IS SHE WEARING?

High-waisted, distressed, boyfriend jeans; a white cropped sweatshirt; gold hoops, and her waist-length box braids tied up with a semi-turban into a crown high ponytail just like Janet Jackson in Poetic Justice.

DAILY AFFIRMATION?

"My failures will not stop me from enjoying the journey." - Alex Elle.

INNER FASHIONISTA?

1950s or 60s, depending on her mood. There is definitely lots and lots of singing and dancing to everything from "Let's Dance" by David Bowie to "Vivrant Thing" by Q-Tip.

WHAT IS SHE WEARING?

From carefree classics to soft and whimsical to boho chic-it all depends! If she's not in chic cropped pants ad ballet pumps (flats), she's in jeans & a flowy top with wedges. If she isn't in either of these then she's probably in a short swing dress or flowy maxi dress complete with jewelled sandals or wedges, chandelier earrings, loads of bangles and anything long around her neck.

DAILY AFFIRMATION?

Be your real self so the universe can find you. Be obsessively grateful and don't forget to dance girl-it counts as self help!
